We’ve all been in room, when the drama queen(or king) takes the stage.  Try observing from a safe distance.  Watch as people are drawn in.  For some coworkers they like to feel in the know

…or in a special group.   As you observe, visualize the sucking sound….as the drama pulls people literally down a drain.  The drama can take on any tone….bashing the company, putting down the department head, to criticizing the ‘lazy coworker’.   The drama queen has a way of putting a spin on the topic that is captivating to some – but can be dangerous if you are pulled in.   The danger comes when you are ‘sucked in’.  You may join in or become jaded by the conversation – remember the drama queen enjoys the stage, and is not necessarily motivated by the positive.

Three tips for dealing with the drama queen(or king) in your office:

1.  nip it in the bud  - let your calm and cool manner tame the queen

2.  don’t give them the stage

3.  don’t feed it – reinforce it –  support it
