I’m not sure if this is the new leader – or the good leader resurrected.

They believe and live what is important to them.  They are directed by their guiding principles.  They protect those guiding principles.  It is their foundation and it is blended in their goals.

Sounds easy doesn’t it, but it can be hard.  I like to reflect on leaders who have made choices that support their beliefs.  Not just the easy choices; but the hard impactful ones.   The question I have asked them is…was it worth it?

The answers have been ‘yes’; but don’t expect it to be easy.  I loved one person’s response…”I made a choice; and I walked away from what was in conflict with my principles.  But the thing is I feel strong inside for knowing what is important to me.”

So why is it a sign of the new leader or a good leader resurrected?

Three reasons stand out:

1.        Living and leading by your principles and values create a strong foundation – that brands your leadership.  You will attract and maintain people and clients/customers that respond to that.

2.       It makes decisions easier…the underlying question …is does this policy/procedure/decision support our values?

3.       Clarity of focus, expectations can be lived, enforced, and woven in your culture.
