Today’s blog is about action and kindness.

In a twenty-four hour period I reflected on three acts of kindness from strangers that made me smile and found me telling others about their actions.   They sound small,

but I don’t believe kindness needs to be big to be impactful.

….I was running errands and when I returned to my car parked at the shopping mall – I noticed a post-it note on my windshield which read…”I noticed when I drove by that your rear tire is low.”    That small notation, likely saved me from harming my wheel or breaking down on the freeway.  It allowed me to be in a safe location and get it fixed.  It was a small note – with a ‘big impact’.

…The next morning I was mowing lawn on a steep bank and managed to get the mower stuck…it was sitting at a nasty angle with one tire spinning.   A gentleman driving by noticed the situation and turned around and helped me ease the mower down the incline…his actions required him to notice a problem and take action.  It would have been easy to speed by at 60 mph – but he chose not to.  What a thoughtful and helpful act.

Lastly, I received a delivery for a new appliance and part of the service was to take away your old appliance.   I was struck by the delivery man, who after he had loaded the old appliance asked if we had any other appliances we needed to get rid of…his question stopped me in tracks;  as in our county we pay to take our old appliances to the recycling center.   I could rationalize that they delivery company receive a salvage value for used appliances, but it was his service, and willingness that struck me …when he said any appliance “like an old refrigerator".  I was simply struck by his gesture...who wants to volunteer to load a refrigerator!    His service was impactful and memorable.

Take action today … one small act of kindness - how would it define your leadership style?
