Have you ever tailgated? I’ve always been somewhat confused by it all. Seldom do people want to arrive early to any activity or event. Whether it is to meetings, church, movies, dinner reservations, or to work – people just don’t arrive early.
So why is it that tailgating has such a following? Arriving early to a game to stand in a parking lot, packing and transporting food/drink, freezing in the elements, as in the case for some football events….but people do attend, they do relish the experience, and create bragging rights over a multitude of costumes, food, or arrival time stories. Tailgating creates such an excitement. People love to find a common ground to celebrate, to dream and visualize possibilities. It’s creating that same sense of excitement and common ground of possibilities that so many companies and organizations fail to convey. Just imagine what would happen if company employees felt the same kind of excitement, optimism, loyalty, and energy that they do at a parking lot having a brat, for a team that may or may not have a winning season. |
