Can an old dog learn new tricks?

It depends if the dog wants to.

For a company to thrive it can’t have static growth, nor can it have static leadership.

Whether it is adjusting a marketing plan, strategic direction, or leadership style; environments need to adjust. It may be that the customer needs have changed, or that employees expectations have changed – but it is a certainty that leadership must adjust.

Today’s culture/environment talks a lot about engaging employees in dialogue differently then in the past. Staff has had enough of being read to, talked at, and dismissed. While they are staying in their present jobs today, a smart leader will adjust ahead of the economic turn to create an environment that their employees can grow in. But it isn’t just about what employees want, it is also about the impact the adjustment can have on the bottom-line. Results, creativity, and accountability can and should be part of the new picture.

So today – as a manager, as a CEO, or an employee who wants to grow – identify 3 traits in your meetings/interactions that aren’t serving you well – and try adjusting.
