When you’re interacting with groups; take a moment to be reflective.  Do only the strong and confident voices get heard?  In your work culture whose voices aren’t being heard?  Do you have messages that aren’t being listened too?

  1. Does it feel like you have to shout to be heard?
  2. Are people’s ideas or thoughts dismissed?
  3. Do you have a disconnect in your team with only ‘certain groups’ being heard

If so – take a step back and start correcting the wrong.

  1. If the soft voice isn’t being heard, take the opportunity and ask a follow-up question to that individual…help elevate their voice and idea.  Let the idea have a chance to grow.
  2. Stop dismissive behavior – call it for what it is…disrespectful.
  3. Ask your team/employees – their ideas, their thoughts, not just the ‘chosen few’.
