Courage in leadership isn’t reserved just for the corner office, or for a senior leadership team. Courage is about the support player, who honestly answers the boss’s question, or help the boss ask the right questions. Courage is when the employee shares concern over a strategic direction, that they feel is detrimental to the customer. Courage is when employees or leaders put aside a defensive response in order to really hear a message that may be hard to hear. Courage is listening to your core values, when politically it may not make sense. Courage is not giving up, when it gets hard – but rather having the fortitude to go forward. Courage is leadership, no matter what the title.
