With the start of the Olympics just hours away – I found myself watching an interview with Dara Torres – 41 year swimming sensation. The interviewer asked about her long standing relationship with her coach and how she was dealing with his absence at her side due to medical problems.

It was obvious in the interview her linkage to her coach, words couldn’t explain – but her eyes did the talking. Her coach is part of her success, part of her career, and the degree of respect she felt toward him was so evident. While he won’t be with her in China – he is with her – head, heart and soul.
While coaching business leaders we strive to have a similiar connection – we are tough, honest and keep the clients goal in mind. We partner with them to make a difference, to take their leadership to the next level, to compete in changing arenas. Coaching is about setting goals, adjusting techniques, and focusing on achieving and providing honest feedback. At times we may be considered a life line; someone they connect with to regain their focus. Todays environment is anything but easy, but Dara Torres success likely hasn’t been easy either.
