“Block until the whistle blows”… is a phrase Pete, a bank CEO used during a leadership coaching session.  While I’m not a football athlete – it is a phrase that is easy to identify with, and one that can serve a person well in life.

Staying engaged, and in the moment takes effort, commitment and awareness.

Think about this:

You’re in a meeting; you’re feeling unengaged, your energy starts to go down, and you start to disconnect from the moment.  Haven’t we all been there?  Whether it is work, home, or a social activity…we take ourselves out of the game….we quit before the whistle is blown.  We may of felt we’ve contributed what we have, we’ve made our point, shared our opinion…and either felt ignored, dismissed, or minimized; so we opt ourselves out of the game.

Check those phrases that play in your head, it may be where you need to adjust.   Instead of thinking and feeling….”I tried”, “it doesn’t matter”, or “whatever” try Pete’s motto….block until the whistle blows.  Stay in the moment with energy, commitment and a head and heart that is focused, who knows the impact it has on the outcome.

Pete is a Bank CEO/President who also coaches a High School football offensive line.
